Wyoming Court Reporting Schools

Certification for freelance court reporters to practice in the state of Wyoming is not required by law.  Though it is voluntary, obtaining certification should be a goal for any court reporter.  To practice as an official court reporter for the Wyoming Judicial Branch, certification is mandatory.  An official court reporter is also required to earn continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain his or her certification status.  The Wyoming Professional Court Reporters Association (WPCRA) hosts seminars and business meetings to encourage professional development for its members.  Joining the WPCRA can be a valuable networking resource for new and experienced court reporters.

There are currently no physical campuses offering court reporter training programs in Wyoming.  Nevertheless, a quality education is still available.  Many reputable educational institutions around the nation now offer court reporter training programs which can be completed entirely online according to your personal schedule.

Becoming a Court Reporter in Wyoming

Because certification is not required for freelance court reporters in Wyoming, after completing training, a graduate can begin seeking employment immediately.  Many times local court reporting firms will hire recent graduates and train them in aspects of court reporting that are usually not overly-emphasized in school curriculum.  To become an official court reporter, Wyoming certification is required.  This can be accomplished by passing the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) examination administered by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), by having graduated from an accredited court reporting school and passing an NCRA examination tape test administered by two or more persons appointed by the district court judge, or by passing a certification test from any state meeting the same examination standards as Wyoming.

The United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics does not currently provide information about the occupation of court reporting in Wyoming.  However, according to a former treasurer of the WPCRA, there is plenty of work available for court reporters in Wyoming.
