Kansas Court Reporting Schools
Those who wish to become court reporters in Kansas must be licensed as
Certified Court Reporters by taking a state examination through the State
Board of Examiners of Court Reporters. To become certified, applicants
need to have as qualification at least one of the following: completion of
a court reporting program or appropriate coursework at an accredited
court reporting school; be certified as a Registered Professional Reporter
(RPR) through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or as a
certified verbatim reporter (CVR) through the National Verbatim Court
Reporters Association; two years of relevant career experience; or
current court reporter’s license from another state. Applicants must also
be of "good moral character." Court reporters in Kansas are often used as
transcriptionists. Those looking for work in Kansas should have an easier
time of it than other states, as the state unemployment rate in
November 2009 was 6.3 percent, compared with the national
unemployment rate of 10 percent.
